Football Thrills #1 (October 1951) is a sports comic book published by Ziff-Davis, collecting biographical "true tales from football's first century." Hosted and fronted by gridiron legend Harold "Red" Grange — the Galloping Ghost — the issue dramatizes real moments and figures from the sport's history: Grange's own career in The Famous 77, the 1944 Army-Navy game that made Felix "Doc" Blanchard and Glenn Davis into Mr. Inside and Mr. Outside (The Touchdown Twins), a biography of Native American superstar Jim Thorpe, and shorter features on Knute Rockne, Johnny Lujack, and other gridiron standouts, rounded out with fun facts and Red Grange's Sports Scrapbook.

The book is a showcase of top-tier early-1950s talent. It carries a striking painted cover by Norman Saunders (his only cover for the title), with interior art by Bob Powell, John Prentice, John Mayo, Paul Parker, and Frank Borth, and lettering by the prolific Ben Oda. It was part of Ziff-Davis's short-lived push into sports comics — alongside Baseball Thrills and Bill Stern's Sports Book — during a period when publishers were diversifying away from the superhero and crime genres. Despite the quality of its covers, Football Thrills sold poorly and ran only two issues.

Today the title is prized mainly by collectors of Norman Saunders cover art and by historians of the sports-comics subgenre. Its biographical treatment of real athletes — Grange, Thorpe, Blanchard, Davis — makes it a nostalgic time capsule of mid-century American football hero-worship, and a notable example of how comics briefly courted sports fandom in the pre-Code era.
