Junior Hopp Comics #1 (1952) is a Golden Age teen-humor comic book in the Archie tradition, introducing readers to "the keenest teen in town" and his hometown of Highvale, U.S.A. The debut issue opens with a tour of Junior's world — including a map of Highvale and an introduction to his supporting cast — before launching into the kind of light, gag-driven misadventures the genre was built on: a love potion that goes hilariously wrong, his pal Chuck wrestling with an ant invasion, and a running Gramps feature. Rounding out the book are the Junior Hopp Club News page and assorted one-page comedic fillers, all delivered across 48 full-color pages for a ten-cent cover price.

The series was published by Stanmor Publications, one of the many revolving imprints of Stanley P. Morse's low-budget comics operation (also known as S.P.M. / Key Publications). Like most of Morse's output, Junior Hopp was a quick attempt to ride a popular wave — in this case the post-war boom in teen-humor comics that Archie had made enormously profitable. Its single most notable feature is the involvement of a young Dave Berg, who provided cover and interior art years before he became one of the most recognizable voices at MAD magazine with his long-running feature "The Lighter Side of…"

Today the title is a genuine obscurity, but a meaningful one for collectors and historians. It offers a window into the early, formative work of a major humorist before his signature style emerged, and it stands as a representative artifact of the crowded, short-lived teen-comedy market of the early 1950s.
