Lucky Comics #1 (January 1944) is the debut issue of a short-lived Golden Age anthology from Consolidated Magazines — the same small New York publisher behind the sister title Key Comics, launched the very same month. Like most wartime anthologies, the 52-page book is a grab-bag of features: across its run Lucky Comics leaned toward humor and teen material (recurring characters such as the glamour-chasing Gloria Getrich and the comic "Hoiman") alongside gag cartoons and lighter adventure fare, produced by a rotating stable of Golden Age journeymen.

The title is a snapshot of the crowded mid-1940s publishing boom, when small outfits rushed dime anthologies onto newsstands during the wartime paper economy. Consolidated Magazines was one of these fly-by-night houses, publishing only a handful of titles — Key Comics, Lucky Comics, and Masterpieces Illustrated — before folding in 1946. Notably, Lucky Comics shares its name with a completely unrelated Canadian "Canadian Whites" title from Maple Leaf Publishing (begun 1941), a frequent source of cataloguing confusion.

For collectors and historians today, Lucky Comics #1 is a genuine public-domain curiosity from a barely-remembered publisher, of interest mainly to specialists in the obscure corners of Golden Age anthology comics. Surviving copies are scarce, and the full run has been preserved and made freely available through public-domain comics archives.
