Lucky Coyne Comics #1 (c. 1946) is an obscure Golden Age one-shot built around Lucky Coyne, a hard-boiled detective — variously a cop, reporter, and private eye — whose trademark was a flipped coin that made his decisions (heads "yes," tails "no"), a gimmick he sported nearly a year before DC's Two-Face. Unusually, the book doubled as a news magazine, blending the strips with photographs and articles about World War II. Its interior strips reprinted material from the Harry "A" Chesler studio, with the Lucky Coyne art attributed to Gus Ricca — Chesler's mid-1940s art director and a former Liberty / Esquire / Collier's illustrator now best remembered for his weird, macabre Golden Age covers.

Published by Rucker Publications Ltd. (the same outfit behind The Weekender), the title appeared in two near-identical variants — one labeled Super Publications Ltd., one Rucker Publications Ltd. — which accounts for the "1A" designation collectors use. Chesler's chaotic packaging operation leased Lucky Coyne to numerous publishers, reworking and renaming him as Kensington Slade, Jinx Jordan, and Rocky Stone along the way, so a clean bibliography for this scarce book remains elusive.

Today Lucky Coyne Comics is a collector's curiosity prized by Golden Age completists, Chesler/Ricca enthusiasts, and public-domain fans. It survives as a public-domain reprint and stands out both for its rarity and for its hybrid comic-plus-WWII-newsmagazine format — a genuine 1940s oddity headlined by a coin-flipping sleuth who quietly predated one of comics' most famous villains.
