Captain Fearless Comics #1 (1941) is a Golden Age superhero anthology published in the patriotic, flag-waving heyday of America's entry into World War II. The hefty 68-page issue introduces a roster of costumed and adventuring heroes battling Axis spies and "fifth columnists." In the title strip, John Fearless is visited by the ghost of his Revolutionary War ancestor, who gifts him a magic horn to fight Nazi saboteurs on American soil. Backing him up are an unusually rich lineup of debut features — Sergeant Dick Carter of the U.S. Border Patrol (with standout art by Charles Quinlan), the would-be miracle-worker Mr. Miracle, the masked Alias X, adventurers Grit Grady, "Cap" Stone, and the magician Solar — plus a sprinkling of factual one-page war fillers.

The book's most historically significant feature is the debut of Miss Victory (Joan Wayne), one of the earliest patriotic superheroines in comics, who would go on to become a recurring star of the publisher's Captain Aero Comics. The issue came from the tangled Temerson / Helnit / Continental operation (indicia: Helnit Publishing Co.), one of the many small, short-lived outfits that flooded the newsstands during the wartime comics boom. Captain Fearless Comics itself lasted only two issues before its surviving characters were folded into other titles.

Today the comic is valued by Golden Age collectors and historians as a snapshot of the chaotic, character-packed early-1940s market — and especially as the first appearance of Miss Victory, a notable entry in the small canon of WWII-era costumed heroines. As a public-domain title, it has been preserved and reprinted, keeping these obscure but charming wartime heroes accessible to modern readers.
