Doll Man Quarterly #1 (Autumn 1941) is the first solo comic book devoted to Doll Man, the alter ego of research chemist Darrel Dane, who can will his body down to six inches while keeping the strength of a full-grown man. The 68-page issue collects five Doll Man adventures: Phantom Swordsman, in which Dane hunts a masked killer named Steve Morton; The Vulture, pitting the tiny hero against a winged criminal; The Framing of Joe Davis; Black Gold, featuring the scheming Dr. Rosdick and Prof. Weezel; and The Black Gondolier, a fog-bound waterfront thriller. Rounding out the book are the origin of the one-shot hero Just 'N' Right, the text story Red Light of Doom, and the humor fillers Gags (Poison Ivy) and The Laugh Parade.

Doll Man was created by Will Eisner and debuted in Feature Comics #27 (December 1939) as Quality Comics' first super-powered character — and the first shrinking superhero in American comics. After nearly two years as a back-up feature, he was promoted to his own quarterly, published by Comic Favorites, Inc. under Everett M. "Busy" Arnold. The launch sits at the height of the Golden Age boom and just weeks before Pearl Harbor; Quality's wartime paper allocation would soon turn the "quarterly" schedule into a literal constraint rather than a marketing label. Art on the issue is uncredited in the book itself and remains partly conjectural, with the Grand Comics Database attributing most of it to John Cassone, one story to Tony Di Preta, and The Black Gondolier tentatively to Rudy Palais.

Today the issue matters for three reasons:

A foundational document of the shrinking-hero archetype that later produced DC's Atom and Marvel's Ant-Man.
A rare showcase for George Brenner — creator of the Clock, the first masked comic-book hero — writing and drawing under the pen name Wayne Reid, with in-jokes naming actual Quality staffers.
Freely readable in the United States. Unlike most Golden Age material locked behind corporate rights, the original comic is a genuinely accessible primary source for readers, scholars, and publishers alike.
