Love and Marriage #1 (1952) is a pre-Code romance comic and the debut issue of a series from the Canadian publisher Superior Comics. Across four stories — This Is Forever, She Wanted My Man, The Losing Game, and Lesson in Love — the issue serves up the heightened emotional melodrama the genre was built on, but with a sharper edge than the tamer romance comics that followed. A woman pays the price after cheating on her sailor boyfriend; another grows restless and dissatisfied with her role as a 1950s housewife; a third, "stung by romance," finds herself unable to love again. Throughout, the book leans on "good-girl art" and undercurrents of crime and infidelity that the later, post-Code romance titles would scrub away.

The comic came from Superior Publishers Limited, a Toronto-based operation that supplied the Canadian and US newsstand markets, largely by repackaging material sourced from American studios — most notably the Jerry Iger Studio, the famed comics "packager" whose stable produced reams of good-girl art. The most celebrated artist associated with the Love and Marriage series is Matt Baker, one of the first successful African-American comic artists and the Golden Age's premier good-girl stylist, though his documented contributions appear on later issues rather than this debut.

Today the title appeals to two distinct audiences: romance-comics historians studying the genre's racier pre-Code phase, and good-girl-art collectors drawn to the Iger-studio aesthetic.
